To Be A Truly Malaysian

Our National Day is nearing, aren’t you all excited? This year marks the 60th anniversary of our independence so let’s celebrate it by being a truly Malaysian.

Eat local food!

nasi lemak

It’s true that many of us can’t live without nasi lemak and roti canai, just ask those who have been residing overseas for years. On this special day of ours, forget your diet plans and go hunting for the delicious local foods that have been our main attraction even to the tourists. Not just the usual nasi lemak or roti canai, we are talking about asam laksa, curry laksa, satay, popiah, nasi dagang, and the list goes on. Make a date with your fellow Malaysians and get together Malaysian-style, complete with a cup of teh tarik or a bowl of es cendol.

Choose local produce

durian

Nothing beats fresh local produce and when it comes to selection you’ll be spoilt for choice. Manggis, rambutan, langsat, cempedak, nangka, and of course durian! Speaking of durian, it’s in season now so grab them while you can. Juice Works also offers freshly blended juices that contain your favourite local fruits, such as Water Works (contains watermelon), Tummy Calmer (contains papaya), and Superstar (contains starfruit & guava). Enjoy meaningful conversations and indulge in reminiscences over these healthy juices with your Malaysian loved ones. You can even share tips of where to find the best place for a durian feast. ;)

Watch and cry together

Petronas-Ad-SS2

Remember those tear-jerking Merdeka ads that are always guaranteed to make us, Malaysians, cry? Expect it to happen again this year. Every Malaysian is looking forward to these ads every year because they remind us of our roots and values. So get your tissues ready and watch them together with your friends and family for a Merdeka moment that will surely last a lifetime.

With the National Day just around the corner it’s time to celebrate the true meaning of being a Malaysian, and what better way to do it with the people who grew up with you or the ones who know how to enjoy eating with hands the way you do. Selamat Hari Merdeka, Malaysia.
