Keep Your Heart Beating

Until today, heart diseases and strokes remain two of the leading causes of death in the world. The fact is- they can be prevented with daily exercise and a healthy diet. However, most of us will either fail at one or both. In conjunction with the World Heart Day, we at Juice Works would like to remind our fans that any healthy actions taken, will help keep our body strong and our heart beating for a long time. So let’s start with these simple steps:


Start your day the right way

Remember this: breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Have a healthy one and avoid skipping it, and you will be on the right track. Breakfast becomes more important when exercise is on your agenda. It helps to replenish the blood sugar that your body needs to power your muscles. Skipping it will leave you feel lethargic while working out. Too many people rely on simple carbohydrates to start the day, but a breakfast that is packed with fiber and protein will provide you with the energy needed to keep your exercise going. Try pairing your whole-grain toast with eggs or opt for cereals containing oatmeals and whole-grains. Just throw in some milk, yogurt or chopped nuts and you’re good to go.


Choose healthy fats


Too much fat is always a bad idea, but loading up on the good fats can help prevent high cholesterol and high blood pressure. There are two types of heart-healthy fats: Omega-3 fats and Monounsaturated fats. The best foods that contain these fats are fatty fish such as salmon and tuna, nuts, avocados, and olives. At the same time, try to reduce bad fats intake by opting for skimmed milk, reduced-fat cheese, low-fat yogurt, and lean meat.


Eat more fruits and veggies

It’s so easy to include fruits and veggies in your diet. You basically can have them as part of every meal – pancakes with blueberries for breakfast, green salad for lunch, and steamed veggies for dinner. They make great snacks too – chopped fresh fruits, carrot sticks dipped in yogurt, freshly blended juices, and the list goes on.
